Spiritual Wrestling Part 1
There is a spiritual battle going on around us and we need to be aware of how the devil and evil spirits function.We’re never told to fight the devil; he’s much too clever, much too strong for us. Jesus is the strong man who binds the devil. We’re also told not to rebuke him.Ray Steadman suggested that a lot of the talk about rebuking and binding spirits is actually “the desire of the flesh to look committed and powerful in the service of God”. People do it to look spiritual, to look good. He goes on, “After pastoring for forty years I can state unequivocally that the most common cause of spiritual weakness in a Christian (or a church) is a failure to recognize the flesh in its disguise of religious zeal. Like Peter flashing a sword in Gethsemane the fleshly Christian thinks he is doing God's will and fighting God's battles for him.”The real problem is not evil spirits, it’s our flesh, our sin.
